August 11th, 2003
These are the pictures I took on the evening of August 11th, 2003, near Pflugerville, TX.

Picture #1
The shelf cloud.

Picture #2
The storm coming closer, with the shelf cloud still in front. This digital picture isn't very good quality, but if you look carefully, you can see the striations in the cumulonimbus above the shelf cloud.

Picture#3
Another picture of the cloud striations, a little closer in. By the way, I can provide the full-size version of any of these pictures to anyone who wishes to see more detail. Just email me and give the number below the picture you want to see.

Picture #4
Another picture of the approaching shelf cloud.

Picture #5
Yet another picture of the shelf cloud, taken as we began to head west, thinking we would come out behind the storm. Hah!

Picture #6
The storm suddenly veered south, and came right over the top of us! This is the underside of that shelf cloud. I took the picture through the dark window of the suburban, but it's not all that much darker than the cloud actually was!

Picture #7
We're now back at the church building, and this is the shelf cloud from the backside.

Picture #8
This is the most turbulent part of the storm coming into view here, and you can also see the edge of the heavy rain and hail moving into the picture from the right.

Picture #9
Turbulence on the left, and very heavy rain and hail on the right.

Picture #10
A very interesting cloud formation here. The white-looking clouds looked like they were trying to start rotating, though I never saw anything organized.
