1997 Trip Journal - 8/2/97 to 8/21/97

8/2/97

Today, we left our house at 9:45am. We drove to our friends house, in the Texas Panhandle. We ate dinner with them at The Cotton Patch. We all visited until midnight, and then all went to bed.

8/3/97

This morning we left our friends house at 9:05am. We drove up through the rest of the panhandle, through the Oklahoma panhandle, and up through eastern Colorado, headed for Denver. That was a 500 mile trip! On the way through eastern CO, we saw a golden eagle and 3 pronghorn antelope. They were all beautiful! Now I'm sitting in our friend's kitchen at 11:34 pm, MDT. I can't sleep due to being in a new place! Oh well...

I don't know what we will do tomorrow. *Note: see "8/4/97"

8/4/97

Today we got up and had pancakes for breakfast. Yum! We took our friend's son to the doctor and then to his workplace, then to the bank. We all came back and Mom took a nap while Dad and I read and our our friend and her son worked/played on their computers. Then we drove our friend to the hospital where she works so she can pick up some transcripts. Right now, we are sitting in the hospital parking garage, watching a big thunderstorm in the west. Later, we came back to their house and had hamburgers for dinner. It's now 10:20pm, MDT, and I am trying to decide what to read before I go to sleep. Tomorrow, we are driving to Colorado Springs!

8/5/97

Today we left our friends house near Denver, and drove down to Colorado Springs, CO. We went to our friend's house there, and had lunch with them. We went over to the husband's work place and he gave a us a tour! We went back to their house and visited the rest of the day and had spaghetti for dinner. We stayed up until about 11:30 pm, MDT, talking! Boy, was I tired....why does sitting in a car all the time make one so tired?

8/6/97

Today we left our friends house and drove across town to get a hotel room. Dad has to work at MCI here for 8 days! Mom and I will be spending most of our time in the hotel while he works. Dad went to check that everything was in order down the road at MCI, and when he came back, we went out and found a Cracker Barrel restaurant and ate there for dinner! After dinner, we drove through Garden of the Gods park. On the way back to the hotel in the twilight, we saw a great horned owl sitting on a signpost. He was beautiful! Now we are back at the hotel. It is 8:38 pm, MDT.
